Ours is a simple story of boy meets girl, girl doesn't remember boy. Girl meets boy, boy doesn't remember girl. Girl and boy meet (again) and boy makes girl cry asking her really serious questions in a jovial setting. Despite boy being daft, one thing led to another and we got married. Several years later we had a daughter-- Genevieve Deléon Flannery Callistus-- and more than ever were filled with the sense that our need for holiness was immense. (I mean, every parent probably feels this way, but I don't mean the sense of, 'Oh, God, how am I going to do this,' but more the sense of, 'Behold this perfect creature whom I love. If it is at all in my power, I will teach her to be holy.')
The only problem was I'm not very holy (I'll leave Kristen out of that comment).
And so the decision was made: we would look to those holy Saints who had lived lives in such a way that we could follow their examples and perhaps glean a better understanding of how to interact with grace. This, of course, led to a second question: how do we learn more of the Saints? The Lives of the Saints, while comprehensive, was not entirely compelling; how could the life of so dynamic a person be summed up in a few, short pages? Instead, we determined that the best course would be to go to those people who had encountered the Saints (through study as well as personally) and speak with them.
And so here we are: an intelligent, beautiful, witty woman (who is not currently reading over my shoulder) and the wordy man she chose to marry, following our line of inquiry over these fascinating, grace-filled people. We look forward to sharing our time with you in the pursuit of Heaven and sanctification!
