IRIS (Celestial Flame)

Of course the flower we’ve chosen to associate with St. Joan of Arc is the Celestial Flame Iris. The fluer-de-lis, the flower that decorated St. Joan’s battle standard, is frequently called a stylized lily, however, it is often argued that the symbol is not a lily, but rather an iris. But regardless of whether the flower on the standard is indeed an iris, the Celestial Flame is symbolically perfect in and of itself. Its brilliant and delicate petals with so dramatic an elegance and namesake-- even to the end that befell St. Joan, it seems the perfect flower to associate with she who was the Fire of Heaven and met her end at the stake.
