PRAIRIE ROSE

The prairie rose is a simple and unassuming flower. The flower was chosen for its wide-spread nature and because of the relationship between St. Therese and the flower she is related to so frequently.

St. Therese is often compared with a rose-- fitting for her resplendent nature. However, the fact is that St. Therese often related herself not to the majestic rose, but rather to the humble wildflower. The prairie rose encapsulates both of those aspects: it is simple, it is muted, but it is a beautiful rose all the same. This seemed to be a fitting flower to pair with the great Saint that offered us the name which we have given to this podcast.

MARIE LOUISE JUSTIN

Growing up with a mother who loved to draw, Marie started keeping sketchbooks at a young age. Between her love for dance, music, theater and art, she was naturally headed towards a life pursuing the arts. In high school she took her first art class. When her teachers encouraged her to continue with art, she took more advance classes and was inspired to study art in college.

Marie started as an Art Education major at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. However, she realized she was not called to teach in the schools, but somewhere else. She then invested her time studying Art Therapy, loving how creating art could help heal people who did not know how to speak about their feelings. Still, she felt she was not called to be a therapist, either.

After graduating, she held art camps for Atchison, starting from scratch by teaming up with the Atchison Art Association. Having this experience, and the community outreach opportunities her art professors gave her in college, she discovered she loved bringing art to those who normally don't get to experience it. Community engagement and outreach was her calling in the arts world.

Marie is currently teaching art classes throughout the KC Metro area, as well as creating her own work to share with the public. Find Marie online at her website and on Instagram.
